What is Classical Magic®?

Classical Magic® is an innovative program that provides the easiest, most effective, and low cost combination of educational tools available to connect children (and adults) with classical music. Theme recognition is the foundation.

How does Classical Magic® work?

The Classical Magic® program is based on research evidence showing that we remember music better with words. Children sing along, karaoke style, using the lyrics that the author has written for the most beautiful classical music themes. Since the lyrics contain the names of the composer and composition, children easily retain both in a very short time.

Who developed the Classical Magic® program?

The Classical Magic® program was developed by Marjorie Kiel Persons, a children's educator and music education specialist/consultant. She has tested the Classical Magic® concepts in many classrooms and is a frequent speaker/clinician at music education conferences. She has been a well received presenter at state music education conferences in: North Carolina (three times), Texas (twice), Georgia (twice), Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Iowa, Indiana, New Jersey, and West Virginia as well as home school conferences in North Carolina, Virginia, Georgia, Tennessee, Texas, Alabama and Illinois.

Marjorie is a summa cum laude graduate of Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota. She later completed post-graduate studies at the University of Minnesota and Kean College in Union, New Jersey. Marjorie is certified in:

  • Elementary Education
  • Secondary Education
  • English Literature
  • Music Education

Marjorie, a history and music enthusiast, and her husband Clyde, a once retired engineer, have worked together to make the program a reality. They have lived in Venezuela, Aruba, Egypt, and Mexico in addition to several regions of the United States. They currently live in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of northwestern North Carolina.

Why does Classical Magic® work?

The lyrics are kid-friendly, often humorous and always educational. The lyrics make the abstract concrete. Children learn the themes quickly and they begin to hear them in many places – cartoons, commercials, cell phones, malls, etc. Children love to "know" and they become excited about classical music.

Why are we called Classical Magic®?

You'll think it's magic the way your children remember the themes and become excited about classical music.

What do I need to begin?

You can begin the program with Themes To Remember, Volume 1 and a CD player. No music training or background is needed. It's as simple as learning the ABC song.

Are teaching materials available?

See the "PRODUCTS" page. There are many materials that can be used casually or for a comprehensive music appreciation education program. Whether you do just the Basics or continue with the Enrichment, the object is to have fun, to know classical music themes, and to develop good attitudes toward classical music.

Who is using Classical Magic®?

Classical Magic® books with CDs are favorite educational gifts for both adults and children . The products are also being used by Parents with preschool children or children who can read by themselves, elementary and middle school classroom teachers, librarians, and homeschoolers, as well as by college educators of elementary school teachers as an introductory music course.

Who did the illustrations and composer portraits in Classical Magic ® Products?

The illustrations are by Philip Nellis and the composer portraits are by George Ann Johnson.
